Welcome to Green Strings! We are a non-profit organization committed to enriching our community through the universal language of music. We aim to make music accessible to individuals of all ages and backgrounds, fostering a sense of connection and well-being. Whether through listening, learning, or playing, we believe in the transformative power of music.

From captivating performances across Long Island to providing educational lessons and engaging activities, our dedicated members are passionate about sharing the gift of music. We actively encourage collaboration and learning among our community members. Our initiatives have already made a positive impact, reaching diverse audiences such as senior housing residents and guiding low-income students on their musical journey.

What makes Green Strings so great is the people who work to make it so great. Here are some of our treasured members below.
Lucy Chang
Founder
Lucy Chang is a junior attending Miller Place High School with a strong passion for music, academia, and other extracurriculars. She started playing violin since she was 7 years old and also learned to play the viola at age 13. Her involvement in all things music is extensive. Some of her achievements include attending the Manhattan School of Music, playing in chamber groups, and sitting as assistant principal in the Symphony Orchestra. She has since moved up to the Philharmonic Orchestra. Starting from the 6th grade, she has been selected for the All-County orchestras of LISFA, SCMEA, and NYSCAME, sitting principal in both the Violin II and Viola sections over multiple years, as well as recently qualifying as an alternate for the New York All-State Symphony Orchestra. She plays in the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra, plays principal viola, a student-made quartet, and is a principal in the NYU Steinhardt Summer Strings program.

Dedicated to other extracurriculars and leadership, she has been elected as class President of her grade since 8th grade and co-president of her school’s Science Olympiad team, participating as a member in many other clubs. She is part of the Tri-M, Foreign Language, and National Honor Society, a co-founder of the LIYD Chess Club, and part of the Long Island Youth Development Music Club. She also attended the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership NY Metro leadership seminar and the Yale Young Global Scholars program, completing the Innovations in Science and Technology track. Additionally, Lucy has been a member of her school badminton team, playing on the singles lineup since freshman year.
Stephen Ye
Founder
Stephen Ye, a Sophomore at Miller Place High School, is a multifaceted and accomplished individual with a deep passion for music, academics, and extracurricular activities. He has played violin since the age of 6 and became concertmaster in the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra at 9 years old. He is a dedicated member of the musical community and actively engaged in the Tri-M Honor Society, SCMEA, and LISFA. Stephen frequently performed at prestigious venues like Carnegie Hall, Tille Center at LIU, and Staller Center at SUNY. Currently, he is enrolled in the pre-college division of the Manhattan School of Music as a Classical Violin Major and holds the position of Assistant Concertmaster in the Principal Orchestra of MSM. His musical achievements include winning 2nd place in the 2023 Summit Music Festival, receiving an Honorable Mention in the 2023 NYYPP Competition, and being named the Chamber Competition Winner in 2023 at MSM.
Beyond music, Stephen has demonstrated academic prowess, being a five-time national finalist in the MathCON competition, securing a bronze medal and multiple honorable mentions. He is also a USCF chess expert, reaching the top 10 in his age group in the national rankings, and is co-founder and president of the chess club at Long Island Youth Development Inc.
Additionally, Stephen showcases his athleticism as a star player in both singles and doubles for the MPHS Varsity tennis team.
Clarence Yue
Co-founder
Clarence Yue, currently studying in the North Country Road Middle School, is a dedicated individual with a passion for music. Enrolled in the classical violin precollege program at the Manhattan School of Music with a scholarship, Clarence, who started playing the violin at the age of 5 and later added piano at 7, aspires to become a professional violinist. He is currently playing the first chair in his middle school orchestra. Music, for Clarence, is more than a skill; it serves as a source of relaxation and a catalyst for creative thinking.
In addition to his musical pursuits, Clarence is an avid soccer enthusiast. He playes both on a travel team and his middle school soccer team.
Clarence's warm personality is evident in his kindness and friendliness. He finds joy in spending time with friends, always ready to offer a helping hand. In addition to his pursuits, Clarence actively engages in community service, embodying a spirit of generosity that extends beyond his musical and athletic endeavors.
